PHOENIX — Arizona Department of Transportation announced that the pavement rehabilitation project improving U.S. Highway 70 between Thatcher and Pima will begin by the end of September.
The work will take place from Reay Lane in Thatcher to Cottonwood Wash in Pima, and is similar to the work on Highway 70 completed earlier this year, between 8th Street in Safford and Reay Lane in Thatcher.
The 5.4 mile project includes milling the current roadway by 2.5 inches and laying down new asphalt, replacement of guardrails and terminals, fencing, reconstruction of driveways and turnouts, ADA improvements, and new pavement markings and signage.
There will be intermittent daytime lane restrictions and nighttime lane restrictions for paving. In addition, speed limits may be reduced in work zones.
Cost of the project is $20.74 million and is expected to be completed by the summer of 2027.
