Republicans make gains in voters heading into Nov. 8

PHOENIX —Democrats lost ground to Republicans in the number of registered voters in Graham and Greenlee counties.

That’s according to voter registration data released Monday by the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office.

In Graham County, Republicans gained 163 new voters, climbing from 9,647 at the August Primary Election to 9,810 leading into the Nov. 8 General Election. Meanwhile Democrats lost 77, going from 4,619 in August to 4,542 today.

In Greenlee County, Republicans increased from 1,695 in August to 1,728 today, while Democrats fell from 1,468 in August to 1,452 today.

Voters who choose to be unaffiliated with either party grew by almost 3 percent in Graham County, up to 5,026; and is up 1.3 percent in Greenlee County, to 1,443.

Despite the increases by Republicans and independents, the number of registered voters in both counties are down from April. Graham County lost 964 registered voters since last April, while Greenlee County is down 200 voters during the same time.

Statewide, the voter rolls dropped by 146,419 since April, down to 4.14 million voters.  Republicans lost 41,929 voters, to 1.44 million; Democrats lost 63,457, to 1.27 million’ while independents dropped by 39,428, to 1.4 million.
