The 2024 presidential election may be months away, but a new report revealed the Trump-Biden race is already taking a toll on Americans’ mental health. A nationwide survey revealed 53% of Americans are “stressed” about the upcoming election, with 51% saying it causes anxiety and 20% saying it contributes to their depression.
While 1 in 10 admit to losing sleep over it, the report revealed the 2024 election is impacting multiple areas of life:
- 51% fear the outcome of the election could impact their personal safety
- 1 in 4 post about politics on social media, of those: 31% have been unfriended, 29% encountered hate speech, 26% were harassed, 15% have been threatened
- 30% have lost friends because of differing political views, and 49% say it’s harder to be friends with those affiliated to different political parties
