PHOENIX — The setting of new Congressional and Legislative districts has entered the final phase.

On Thursday, Oct. 28, the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission approved the final redistricting draft maps for the state, and that begins a 30-day comment period for the public to weigh in.

In the final draft map, the new Legislative District 19 would include all of Greenlee and Cochise counties, most of Graham County except the San Carlos Apache Reservation, a portion of Pima County south of Tucson, and much of northern Santa Cruz County.

The total population of the district is 228,298 and would be 60 percent white, 30 percent Hispanic. In terms of competitiveness, there is none. That population has resulted in nine Republican wins and no wins for Democrats.

The new Congressional District 6 in the final draft maps would include all of Greenlee and Cochise counties; most of Graham County except the San Carlos Apache Reservation; a sliver of Pima County, including a portion of Tucson; and into Pinal County, including Casa Grande and Coolidge.

Total population of the district would be 794,612, and would be 62 percent white and 26 percent Hispanic. The Congressional district would be more competitive than the Legislative district, with the population producing six Democratic wins and three Republican.

The 30-day public comment period began Thursday, Oct. 28 and continues through Saturday, Nov. 20. The commission will travel to various communities throughout the state to hold public hearings that the public can attend in person or participate in remotely. The dates, times and locations are still to be determined.
