SAFFORD — How best to use two acres of land for food production is the focus of a community meeting later this month.

“We’re trying to get the community involved in making some decisions on the property that we have south of (Safford). So we have two available acres to grow,” said Stacey Scarce, executive director for Our Neighbor’s Farm and Pantry.

Out Neighbor’s Farm and Pantry will host the public meeting Thursday, April 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Chamber of Commerce building in Safford. Free Kainoa’s lunch will be provided to participants.

Up for discussion is use of greenhouses, plant starts and the value of garden classes.

Meanwhile, at the farm in Safford, there are changes occurring, including the upcoming installation of 300-feet of new raised beds, installation of a demonstration garden, and inclusion of native plants to spur activity by pollinator species.

“We’re looking forward to, over the next year, some pretty significant changes in the garden,” Scarce said.
