SAFFORD — About two-dozen people took to the corner of 20th Avenue and U.S. Highway 70 Tuesday afternoon, to protest the actions of the Trump Administration.

The protest was part of the Walk Out action taking place across the country.

“I think that people are waking up, they’re aware that we’re losing our freedoms,” said Patty Cervantez, chair of the Graham County Democratic Committee.

A second protest was held in Clifton later Tuesday afternoon.

The Walk Out actions staged across the nation Tuesday was described as a “walk away from fascism,” a “walk towards a free America” and a “fight for a future that belong to us all.”

It was the first organized national protest of 2026, and comes on the heels of escalating action by the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement division.

On Jan. 7, in Minnesota, an ICE officer shot to death a protestor; however, the Department of Justice announced it will not investigate the shooting.

There have been 25 shootings involving DHS agents since January 2025, resulting in six deaths.
