THATCHER — Children in Graham and Greenlee counties will be returning school over the next few weeks, and a pair of organizations want to help families get ready.
The Greenlee County Community Closet Back-to-School Event will take place Thursday, July 9, from 5-7 p.m., at the Shepherd of the Hills Community Church in Morenci.
All children in attendance will receive: 3-5 tops, 3-5 bottoms, 3-5 pairs of socks, 3-5 undergarments and one pair of shoes. Parents must accompany the child and show proof the child is registered in a school in Greenlee County.
In addition, three groups are distributing backpacks filled with school supplies. They are the Greenlee County Health Department, Morenci Fire Department and United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties; the Clifton Social Club; and the Shepherd of the Hills Community Church.
In Graham County, the 17th annual Back-to-School Resource Fair sponsored by the Graham County Substance Abuse Coalition will take place Saturday, July 25, from 8-11 a.m., inside the Academics Program Building on the campus of Eastern Arizona College.
Backpacks filled with school supplies will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and parents must accompany children.
Parents will also be able to obtain information about services available to children and families from numerous providers in the Gila Valley, as well as receive vouchers for free clothing from GCRC, St. Vincent DePaul and Angel’s Closet.
