Primary Election Day is Tuesday

SAFFORD — Tuesday is the Arizona Primary election and registered voters who have not cast a ballot early or through mail may vote at any one of a number of vote centers.

In Greenlee County voters may cast their ballot at:

  • The Greenlee County Annex at the fairgrounds in Duncan
  • The train depot in Clifton
  • The Morenci Club in Morenci

In northern Greenlee County, voters can cast a ballot at the Upper Eagle Cree School building or the Blue School building.

In Graham County, vote centers include:

  • The Solomon School gymnasium
  • The AG building at the fairgrounds
  • St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church
  • The Fine Arts Auditorium on the campus of Eastern Arizona College
  • The Fort Thomas High School gymnasium
  • Bonita School
  • Robert Olivar Sr. Learning Center in Bylas
  • San Carlos Housing Authority in Peridot

In northern Cochise County, vote centers are located at:

  • First Baptist Church in San Simon
  • Bowie Unified School District offices
  • The Community Center in Willcox
  • Benson School District offices
  • Peace in the Valley Lutheran Church in Benson

Voters may cast a ballot in the primary for his or her registered party or, if the voter has no registered party affiliation, select a Democratic, Republican or non-partisan ballot.

In both Graham and Greenlee counties, the only contested partisan county races are in the Republican primary.

Republican Dale Sloan is challenging incumbent Greenlee County Sheriff Tim Sumner, with the winner to face Democrat Daniel Medina in November.

Republican Mike Bodine is challenging incumbent Graham County Sheriff PJ Allred. There is no Democrat or independent running, so that race will be decided in the primary.

In Cochise County, seven people are vying for the Dist. 3 County Supervisor’s seat that represents Bowie, San Simon, Willcox and Benson: Republicans Frank Antenori, Sonia Gasho, Kathleen Anne Miller and Nancy Olmstead; Democrat Joy Banks; and independents Jacob Kartchner and Patricia Nyberg.

Voters will also be asked to select the candidates for Congress and U.S. Senate to advance to the November general election.

There are also nonpartisan races for the councils in Pima, Thatcher, Safford, Willcox, Benson, Duncan and Clifton. Any council candidate who receives more than 50 percent of the vote in the primary will be elected.

If not enough council candidates receive more than 50 percent of the vote to fill all the seats that are up for election, the top two vote-getters for each seat not filled will advance to the November general election, where the candidates who receive the most votes will be declared the winners, regardless of percentage.
