THATCHER — Produce on Wheels Without Waste, administered by the Safford Lions Club, has been canceled this weekend.

The program, which allows residents to obtain up to 70 pounds of fruits and vegetables for a $15 donation, was originally scheduled for this Saturday in the Home Depot parking lot.

Borderlands Produce Rescue, which provides the produce available at Pow Wows across the state, is unable to get produce across the border from Mexico this week. Cartel violence in the Mexican state of Sinaloa has shut down both the area’s farms and traffic. If Borderlands is able to resume produce delivery, the next Pow Wow will be Jan. 4.
