Police respond to armed robbery

Safford police responded to 1640 W Thatcher Blvd (Dollar General) in reference to an armed robbery this evening at approximately 8:13 pm. Prior to arrival, Officers were advised that the suspect had left eastbound on Hwy 70 in a gold Chevy pickup. 

Witnesses at the scene gave updates on the suspects location, allowing officers to locate the vehicle.  As authorities attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect fled.  A lengthy pursuit ensued throughout Safford, Thatcher and areas of Graham County. 

Officers were finally able to deploy “stop sticks” (pursuit termination devices) and disable the suspect’s vehicle.  The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. 

The suspect has been identified as a 19-year-old Safford resident.  There were no injuries to persons or property during this incident.  Safford Police were assisted by officers from Thatcher Police and deputies from Graham County Sheriff.  Safford Police officers and detectives are actively investigating.
