Safford police officers were dispatched to the scene of a hit and run incident early Saturday morning at approximately 1:23 am. A witness called police after seeing a vehicle back into a parked vehicle near the corner of 6th Avenue and Main Street, then drive away.
Officers reviewed City of Safford Surveillance cameras on the intersection of 6th Avenue and Main Street which showed a Honda Odyssey back up through the intersection of Main Street and 6th Avenue from the 500 block of Main Street onto the 600 block of 6th Avenue. When the Honda went through the intersection it hit the back end of a Chrysler 300. The Honda then drove away traveling east on Main Street. The Chrysler sustained damage to the driver’s side rear bumper and taillight.
Less than an hour later an officer saw the Honda parked at the Budget Inn in Safford. The officer made contact with the driver who admitted to the accident. The driver was arrest for driving under the influence and for leaving the scene of an accident.
