WILLCOX — Arizona Department of Transportation is asking the public to comment on a new plan to expand parking along highways for commercial trucks.

The plan calls for adding 370 safe parking spaces for trucks at three locations, including constructing 127 spaces at a new lot on Interstate 10 and State Highway 186, just west of Willcox. The other locations are the I-10 near Tonopah and the I-40 near Winslow.

The construction would be paid by $32 million available through the National Highway Freight Program.

If more funding can be secured, another seven locations around the state would see expansion of truck parking, including an additional 80 spaces at the San Simon rest area on I-10.

The draft statewide truck parking implementation plan is now available for review. Comments will be accepted through Tuesday, Dec. 19, on the ADOT website at azdot.gov/TruckParkingComments or by e-mailing mpdplanning@azdot.gov.
