PIMA — The applications are in and now it’s time to decide who gets money to beautify their highway properties.

Pima Town Manager Vernon Batty said about six property owners applied to take part in the town’s Highway Frontage Improvement Program.

“I’ve been very impressed with the things that have come forth,” Batty said. “At this time, I would like (the council) to form a committee.”

The committee will review the half-dozen applications and determine which projects receive a share of the $10,000 the town has budgeted for the program.

The committee is made up of Vice Mayor Sherrill Teeter, Council member Teresa Bailey, Batty, and two members of the town’s Public Works Department.

The funds are for improvements to buildings or property, including:

● Exterior painting

● Landscaping

● Installing/repairing sidewalks and other paving

● Replacing old doors and windows

● Installation or upgrades to signage

● Exterior renovations

All work must be considered permanent; placement of temporary improvements or structures, and new building construction will not be eligible.

A 20-percent match is required of owners of the building or property as a condition of the grant.

Approved projects must start no later than June 1 and be complete no later than April 1, 2024. After the project is complete and inspected by town officials, the applicant will be reimbursed the approved grant amount.
