PIMA — The Town of Pima is getting closer to finding a new manager.

During Tuesday’s regular Town Council meeting, Pima Mayor C.B. Fletcher said the town received 13 applications for the position made vacant by the recent resignation of Sean Lewis.

The council has narrowed that list down to five, three of whom will be interviewed Thursday, Sept. 9 and two Sept. 14.

“We’re going to keep the option of re-interviewing one or two candidates if we feel it necessary,” Fletcher said. “As soon as that is completed, we will offer the job; we will choose a number one and a number two (candidate).”

Fletcher added the town will complete a background check of the selected candidates, and he wasn’t sure of when a new manager will be in place, due to the time needed for the successful candidate to leave his or her current employment.

While he did not name the candidates, Fletcher said that two of the five candidates being interviewed do not currently live in the Gila Valley.
