PIMA — The thunderstorm that rolled through the Gila Valley Wednesday dropped less than an inch of rain on Safford, while Pima found itself dealing with the threat of flooding.
The official National Weather Service rain gauge at Safford Regional Airport showed 0.86 inches of rain Wednesday evening, while the unofficial gauge at Pima Public Works showed just less than 4 inches.
As a result, the Town of Pima made sandbags available to residents at both the town yard and the Fire station. Plus the Emergency Service Team was dispatched to deliver sandbags to residents who could not get to the two locations.
The rain also forced the Pima High School graduation ceremony to move from the football field to inside the school gymnasium.
Town officials said while the rain was disruptive, it did not cause any major damage to the town.
