Opinions sought about tourism in the Gila Valley

SAFFORD — The Graham County Chamber of Commerce is asking for the public’s input when it comes to tourism.

The Chamber received a $7,500 grant to conduct an alignment process, bringing the chamber in line with Arizona Office of Tourism’s mission. Aligning with the Arizona Office of Tourism will increase the impact of tourism spending by the Chamber, thanks to matching funds from the state agency.

One of the components of the alignment process is having a visitor’s center open seven days a week, and another is a survey of residents.

“There are a lot of questions about how the Chamber is handling its tourism responsibilities and what we could be doing better; what resources we would need to be able to do the job that the survey respondent wants us to do. So a lot of it is, ‘What job do you want the Chamber to do?’ ” said Vance Bryce, executive director for the Chamber.

Other questions deal with how the Chamber is interacting and supporting businesses in regards to tourism.

To request a survey, e-mail info@graham-chamber.com.

Deadline for the Chamber to submit the data from the surveys to the Arizona Office of Tourism is Monday, Dec. 13.
