Families Fighting Cancer Together supports families with children battling serious illness

THATCHER, AZ (December 12, 2022) — OneAZ Credit Union and the OneAZ Community Foundation are proud to award a $32,500 Legacy Grant to Families Fighting Cancer Together in Thatcher. This grant matches the funding that Families Fighting Cancer Together typically receives in one calendar year.

The 2022 Legacy Grant will have a direct impact on Southern Arizona families with children suffering from serious illnesses:

  • $23,000 will support 2 families by providing home upgrades to enhance the safety and well-being of children. One of these children is legally blind and these enhancements will ensure that her environment is safe and enjoyable.
  • Families served by the organization will be given funds to buy gifts and pay for other holiday expenses
  • A portion of the donation will be allocated to a Parent Pamper fund for full-time caregivers

“No parent should have to watch their child suffer through a serious pediatric illness like cancer,” said Sam Wheeler, Chairman OneAZ Community Foundation. “We hope that this Legacy Grant helps ease this burden from families in Graham and Greenlee Counties so they can focus on helping their families heal.”

How has OneAZ been able to commit so much to Southern Arizona communities?

  • Funding for the OneAZ Community Foundation’s grant programs is made possible in large part due to OneAZ members’ debit card use. Each time a member swipes their OneAZ debit card, one cent is donated to the OneAZ Community Foundation.
  • OneAZ gives back to the community we serve through two distinct charitable programs:
    • The Community Impact Grant (CIG) program provides $5,000 grants to 50 organizations each year.
    • The Legacy Grant program launched in 2022 to provide a greater financial commitment to Arizona-based nonprofit organizations that promote the well-being of the communities we serve.
  • Since 2016, the OneAZ Community Foundation has provided over $1,000,000 in grants and funding to Arizona nonprofit organizations.
  • Nonprofit organizations that receive grants must have a project or initiative that supports the following:
    • Children’s Health
    • Food Banks
    • Financial Education
    • Veterans’ Interests
    • Local Youth Programs.
