SAFFORD —Eastern Arizona Hispanic Heritage Corporation received a $5,000 check for scholarships for local students to attend Eastern Arizona College on Thursday, funding courtesy of OneAZ Credit Union’s Community Impact Grant Program.

“To be able to give back to the community that we serve, it’s our mission, it’s our statement (and) it’s one of our pillars that we want to give back to the community,” said Enrique Garcia, Safford branch manager for OneAZ Credit Union.

Three other Graham County nonprofit organizations are also receiving $5,000 each from the OneAZ Community Impact Grant Program. They are:

● The Boys and Girls Club of the Gila Valley

● Eastern Arizona College Monster Exchange Pantry

● The Nalwoodi Denzhone Community Food Bank serving the San Carlos Apache Nation

Since 2016, the OneAZ Community Foundation has supported 25 Gila Valley-area nonprofits with $95,500 in donations.

“They care about community,” said Bob Rivera, board member for Eastern Arizona Hispanic Heritage Corp. “(They) talked about all the money they are giving throughout the whole state. And that makes a big difference.”

This year, OneAZ is providing $330,000 in Community Impact Grants to 66 Arizona nonprofit organizations.
