SAFFORD – Arizona Department of Public Safety officials said a man was killed after firing on local law enforcement officers.
The incident occurred at 3:34 p.m. near the 2300 block of U.S. Highway 191.
DPS said a Safford Police officer and a DPS officer returned fire on the unidentified man after the man opened fire at the officers. The reason the man was interacting with the officers was not disclosed.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No law enforcement officers were injured.
DPS did not identify the officers involved in the shooting and said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
