Not leaving jail leads to more jail time

SAFFORD — A Gila Valley man was booked into Graham County Jail because he wouldn’t leave the jail.

On April 3, just after 5 p.m., the man was bonded out of jail by his mother, but detention officers said the man refused to leave his cel.

A Graham County Sheriff’s deputy tried to explain the situation and that the man was free to leave, but the man reiterated his intention to stay and kept repeating, “Tick tock.”

The deputy explained that if he wouldn’t leave, the man would be cited for criminal trespass and booked back into jail, to which the man reportedly said that sounded good.

The man was cited and booked back into jail and the deputy explained the situation to the man’s mother, adding that jail staff would attempt to set up an evaluation of the man’s mental state by a Crisis Team member.
