SAFFORD — A knife brought into the Graham County Jail was treated like a hot potato.
During booking of a suspect brought in by Department of Public Safety, it was discovered the suspect had a knife attached to his keychain.
The DPS trooper was unavailable to return to the jail and retrieve the knife, nor does DPS have storage capability at the local substation, so it was decided to secure the knife at the jail until the suspect is released.
However, the suspect, who said he did not purposely bring the contraband to the jail, said he did not want the knife returned upon his release, so it was decided to dispose of the weapon and the suspect was not further charged.
