SUPERIOR — The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers there are no lane restrictions or road closures planned over New Year’s holiday week on U.S. Highway 60, between mileposts 227-243, through Jan. 5.

The roadway between Globe and Superior will be closed in both directions Tuesday, Jan. 6, through Thursday, Jan. 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.

The closure is for the Queen Creek and Waterfall Canyon bridges replacement project.

Drivers will be detoured to Winkelman via State Routes 77 and 177. The roughly 75-mile detour is estimated to add about an hour to trips between the Gila Valley and the Phoenix metro area.

Travel between the Gila Valley and the Tucson area over the holiday will be impacted by construction on Interstate 10.

Bridge replacement at Empirita Road, west of Benson, has reduced the interstate to one lane in both directions, so motorists should plan for extensive delays.

Motorists should plan for extra travel time and use caution when traveling through the work zones.
