PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation is soliciting bids for the next round of electric vehicle charging station construction, but don’t look for any work in Graham or Greenlee counties.

Graham and Greenlee are completely bypassed under ADOT’s Arizona Alternative Fuel Corridors plan, the only two counties in the state to be excluded from the program.

Almost all of the funding is coming from the federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program, which allocated $76.5 million to Arizona for the charging stations.

The first round of charging stations concentrates on interstates, with the stations no more than 50 miles apart and within a mile of an interchange. The second round is focusing on the state and U.S. highway systems, with expansion to additional highways planned for 2025.
