SAFFORD — The Safford Downtown Association is taking a different approach to its annual Appreciation Luncheon this year.
Instead of asking the public to vote on the best businesses in Safford, the Downtown Association will be recognizing those Downtown businesses that having been in continuous operation for 70 or more years.
The luncheon will also shine a spotlight on all businesses in Safford’s Downtown that opened in 2024 and are still running.
The luncheon will take place Wednesday, April 16, at noon, at the historic Safford Theatre.
The Downtown Association has been renovating the theatre over the past few years, and the hope is to have it open to the public and available for plays, music events and movie showings within the year.
The Safford Downtown Association “works to improve Downtown Safford through events, capital improvement projects, business support and reinvestment” in the area between Entertainment and 20th avenues to the east and west, and U.S. Highway 70 and 8th Street to the north and south.
