SAFFORD — The first step in encouraging more businesses to do business in the City of Safford will be taken Monday.

The Safford City Council will conduct the first reading of an amendment to city code creating a new license for temporary businesses, such as vendors at special events.

The new license will be $12 and valid for 15 consecutive days. If a vendor wishes to participate in multiple events that fall outside those 15 days, additional licenses are required.

For any vendor that would take part in more than four events, a regular business license is available for $50 and allows for operation for one full year.

In addition to vendors, the license would apply to businesses associated with parades, circuses, festivals, political rallies, sporting events, entertainment, vehicle shows, swap meets and other special events that take place for a limited amount of time.

The second reading will take place at the Dec. 27 City Council meeting and, if passed, the new business license requirement would go into effect in 2022.

The Safford City Council meets Monday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m., in the Safford Library programming room.
