News Release

Homicide

On 06-25-2015 at approximately 2155 hours Graham County Communications received a call of a shooting that just occurred in the 4200 hundred block of South Highway 191, an apartment complex just north of Brick’s Restaurant.  When Deputies and Officers arrived a male victim was found in the parking lot having been shot several times.  According to witnesses the suspect left in a Blue Ford Escort north on Highway 191.

The victim was identified as Manuel Espinoza III, age 31, of Safford.  He was later pronounced deceased.  The suspect was identified as Mariceo Rea, age 18, also of Safford.  A search for Mariceo Rea was conducted that evening into the morning with no success.  On 06-26-2015 while searching the area near 2nd Ave and 7th St in Safford, M. Rea was spotted by law enforcement crossing Highway 191.  He was taken into custody by member of the Safford Police Department near the AZ State Credit Union at approximately 1105 hours.  Mariceo Rea was later booked into the Graham County Jail for Homicide.  At this time it appears the incident may have had something to do with money owed by the victim.

The investigation is on-going though an arrest has been made.  Anyone with information reference the whereabouts of the Blue Ford Escort, AZ registration of 444-SFK, or any other information in this case is encouraged to call the Graham County Sheriff’s Office at 428-3141.
