SAFFORD — The Safford City Graham County Library continues its National Endowment for the Arts Big Read exploration of “The Bear” by Andrew Krivak with a photography exhibit.

The NEA Big Read in Graham County is presented in partnership with The Gila Arts Council, the Friends of the Safford Library, and the Graham County Chamber of Commerce with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The event features photography from Eastern Arizona College students in response to the prompt “Remains of What Once Was”.

“The prompt echoes the ‘gentle post-apocalyptic’ theme featured in the novel ‘The Bear.’ Before making their photographs, students were asked to consider what this prompt meant to them, if ‘remains’ could still contain beauty” said EAC Graphic Design Instructor Jeff Henley.

An initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest, the NEA Big Read broadens our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the power of a shared reading experience.

Graham County is one of 62 communities nationwide participating in the 2022-2023NEA Big Read. From October 2022-January 2022 the community will celebrate “The Bear” by Andrew Krivak with a full calendar of events including a community book discussion at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17.
