Mt. Graham Little League sweeps District 11 tournaments

Mt. Graham Little League made a clean sweep of the district 11 tournaments they fielded a team in. The 8-10 and 11–12 year-old baseball teams and the 11–12-year-old softball team all moved on to their respective state tournaments.

The 8–10-year-old squad beat Pinal Mountain 19-9 in the championship game for a spot in the state tournament to be help July 15th through 25th in Tucson at Purple Heart Park. MGLL received a bye in the first round of the double elimination format and will play the winner of Deer Valley and Red Mountain on July 17th at 7:45pm. The team is coached by Mark Johnson, Stephen Walden and Jory Rhoton.

The 10–12-year-old team, which is referred to as just Little League, topped Kearny 11-1 in their title game and will now travel to Flagstaff. The 2023 Arizona State Little League Baseball (Majors) Tournament is being hosted by Arizona District 1 at Continental Little League and West Flagstaff Little League from July 17-25.

MGLL will again get a bye in the opening round and will play the winner of the game between Litchfield Park and Canyon View on Tuesday, July 18th at 6:30pm. The team is coached by Andy Rios, Scott Howard and Jared Nelson.

The MGLL softball team’s season came to an end last week at the state tournament in Verde Valley. They dropped game 1 23-0 to District 3 and their 2nd game 19-9 to District 7. Team names were not provided on the official bracket for this tournament. The team was coached by Steven Castro, Josh Rice and Chad Solberg.
