MORENCI — Greenlee County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to Morenci High School Thursday when a student reported that a fellow student brought a weapon to school.
The suspected student told officials they had been hunting earlier in the week, and had forgotten to remove their firearm and ammunition from their vehicle.
Deputies searched the vehicle and found the weapon and ammunition as the student described. Law enforcement determined there was no threat to students or staff.
In a posting to social media, Morenci Superintendent Jennifer Morales said the district will not publically discuss “individual disciplinary actions, (but) this matter is being taken seriously and significant consequences will follow.”
