Morenci High School Adds Swimming to Varsity Sports

Morenci High School has added swimming to their roster of Varsity sports starting this season.

Morenci Athletic Director Frank Ogas couldn’t be happier with the addition.

“We are very excited to be adding a swimming program at Morenci High School. We have been looking at and receiving feedback from our community about adding programs the last couple of years to give our student/athletes the opportunity to compete in both traditional and Olympic sports. Our new head coach Mr. Eric Waananen has developed a very strong community swim team that initiated our movement to include swim in the Morenci Schools. We are currently working on completing a swim schedule that will include competing at meets primarily in the metro areas of Arizona.”

Coach Waananen added, “I am excited to take swimming to the next level and let these kids enjoy what our sport offers.  Our year round program continues to be very successful and I imagine the high school team will follow.”

Morenci will field a boys and girls swim team this season. Currently Morenci has just one meet scheduled on their schedule. It is schedule for October 18th at McClintock Pool in Tempe.

The Swim Cats will compete in Division III, which is the smallest division of competition that the AIA offers in Swim/Dive.
