More than 1,200 fentanyl pills seized during Safford PD traffic stop

SAFFORD — A traffic stop for a license plate infraction resulted in Safford Police making a significant drug bust.

The incident occurred Sunday, April 3, at 2:42 a.m., on  the 500 block of U.S. Highway 70.

During the traffic stop, officers said they observed drug paraphernalia in plain sight, which led to the vehicle’s occupants, identified as Zachariah Smith, of Tucson, and William Kindred, of Tucson, being detained.

A search of the vehicle turned up 1,259 fentanyl pills and about 2.67 ounces of methamphetamine.

Smith and Kindred were taken into custody and booked into Graham County Jail on charges of transportation of a dangerous drug for sale, possession of a dangerous drug for sale, possession of a dangerous drug, transportation of a narcotic drug for sale, possession of a narcotic drug for sale, possession of a narcotic drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
