THATCHER — For the third year in a row, the Friends of the Safford Library exceeded their goals.

Wednesday’s third annual Radio Auction on Kat Kountry and KATO radio, and streamed at GilaValleyCentral.net, raised $10,255, with more to come thanks to items that will be up for raffle and a big ticket item taking more bids throughout the day.

“Thank you, thank you to all the bidders; they are wonderful, thank you,” Friends of the Library’s Paulette LeBlanc said.

Bids for a seven-piece dining room set donated by Valley Furniture, plus two tickets to the University of Arizona-Oregon State football game on Oct. 28 donated by Double R Communications, can be placed on the Kat Kountry Facebook page. The raffle for a Hal Empie limited edition print will be announced at a later date.

Donations of items came in from across the Gila Valley, including from DRG Technologies, Open Loop Energy, Freeport-McMoRan, Swire Coca-Cola, Valley Telecom, Country Financial, Ginaveve’s Marketplace, Empire-Cat, CKC Materials, Sparks Homestore, McDougal’s Caldwell Funeral Chapel, Gila Valley Balloon Adventures, Gila Valley Photo Booth and individuals.

“People are so darn generous; that’s just our Valley,” said auction organizer Paul David.

The first auction in 2021 raised about $8,000, while the second annual auction brought in about $9,300.

The Friends of the Safford Library will use the money raised from the auction to buy books, and audio and video items, as well as pay for programming and concerts free for children and patrons of the Safford City-Graham County Library.
