SAFFORD – A man suffered a broken leg Saturday after being run over by a truck while lying in an alley.

According to a Safford Police report, Hector Rodriguez was lying in an alley north of 517 N. 5th Avenue when a truck driven by Michael Scott drove through the area at about 2 p.m. and ran over Rodriguez’s legs.

Rodriguez cried out in pain and a bystander responded to his cries. The bystander then went to the truck and informed Scott he had run over a person.

Scott allegedly told a Safford officer that he didn’t hear Rodriguez’s yell because he was hard of hearing. He admitted to feeling running over something but said he believed it to just be the curb. He expressed remorse at the scene for the accident and was worried about Rodriguez’s health, according to the report.

Rodriguez was talent to the Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center by Lifeline Ambulance, where he was treated for a broken right leg.
