On Friday, December 6. 2024 at 8:00 AM, A Highway Department worker notified the Graham County Sheriff’s Office of a man asleep behind the wheel in the middle of Cemetery Road. A deputy was dispatched to the scene to check on the man. When he arrived, he knocked on the window and woke up the driver. He asked the man why he was parked and sleeping in the middle of the road. The man replied that he thought it was a dirt road that nobody traveled.
The man told the deputy that he had gotten off work late the previous night and went to the bar for about an hour. He said that he didn’t stay long and drove around for a while, but he couldn’t keep his eyes open, so he pulled onto Cemetery Road and went to sleep.
Although the deputy could smell alcohol on the man’s breath, he determined that he was not intoxicated and let him go.
