Man attempts theft but flees the scene

SAFFORD –  On Saturday, Safford police were dispatched to Walmart in reference to a reported theft in which the man was reportedly running east on 8th Street from Walmart. Later, he was reported to be on Thatcher Boulevard. Police were unable to locate the man.

When the officer spoke with the Asset Protection Office about the incident, they reported that they had confronted the man as he left the general merchandise exit. The man was seen allegedly concealing what was later determined to be a radar detector after removing it from the packaging. The Asset Protection employee attempted to get the man to go to the Asset Protection Office but the man fled on foot. The radar detector was recovered as he left the store, being valued at $53.10.

A photo was provided of the man to the officer and was allegedly recognized by a customer. The photo was compared to the booking photo of the name provided and appeared to the officer to be the same person. The man was not located in relation to this incident, however, he was involved in a prior theft at Walmart, in which he was trespassed.
