Man arrested outside Walmart after threatening woman

Safford police received a call to service regarding domestic violence at Walmart. The call came in at approximately 9:40 am on Monday February 12, 2024. The reporting party said that they had witnessed a Native American man yelling at a Native American woman, threatening to kill her and her kids. The reporting party also said the the man may have swung his fist in an attempt to hit the woman but wasn’t sure if he made contact.

Safford and Thatcher police officers found the suspect near the northwest parking entrance. The man admitted that he and the woman had been arguing about how they were going to get back to Bylas. He denied trying to hit the woman.

The woman confirmed the argument and said that she had been trying to get away from the man after telling him that she would get a ride with her sister, who was nearby. The man apparently followed her into the store and continued to harass her, allegedly telling her that he was going to get his friends to help jump her. She said that she was afraid for her safety.

The man was booked into the Graham County Jail for Disorderly Conduct and Domestic Violence.
