Linda Morcomb

Linda Morcomb, a longtime resident of the Gila Valley, peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by her family, on July 16, 2024.

Linda was born in Silver City, New Mexico and moved to Safford as an infant. She graduated from Safford High School in 1964 and that same year married Earl, her husband of 60 years. They had two daughters, Christy and Paula, and raised their daughters in Safford.

In 1980, Earl left John Deere after 20 years, and he and Linda opened Morcomb Diesel & Electric. Linda handled the bookkeeping, parts inventory and customer service for the business. Her contributions were essential to the success of the business for the next 27 years, until they sold out and Earl retired. In 2007, they left Safford and moved to the new home they built in Pima. Linda was unsure about leaving Safford but ultimately loved their home in Pima, including the beautiful views of the mountain. Even after they sold out and Earl retired, Linda continued to work at Morcomb Diesel because she enjoyed interacting with longtime customers and keeping up with what was going on in the valley.

Linda loved the Gila Valley and her community of friends here. She had great memories of the numerous RV and sand rail trips with friends and family, and many wonderful vacations with her family to the Grand Canyon, Montana, Utah, Silverton, Mesa Verde, Greer, Santa Fe, and most recently, Sedona. She was a gifted artist and enjoyed painting, drawing and wood burning. She also loved movies and TV shows (especially true crime, historical documentaries and SNL), a love she shared with her granddaughter. Linda will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Linda is survived by: her husband, Earl; her daughters, Christy (Laurie) and Paula; her granddaughter, Hope; her sister, Connie Bingham; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Chloe, and cats, Maddie, Spot and Tubs. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Clyde and Hope Swenson; and several beloved pets, including Coco and Roxy.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you consider making a donation to Desert Cat Rescue & Sanctuary of Arizona (https://www.desertcatrescue.org/donate) or planting a tree (or cactus) in memory of Linda, as she truly loved animals and plants.

Linda’s family wants to thank both Eden Hospice (especially Ashley Cully) and their neighbors (The Marshall’s) for all the support, care, kindness, respect and generosity they provided to Linda these last couple of months.

A Celebration of Linda’s Life will be conducted Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., at the Vining Funeral Home, followed by a lunch at GFWC Woman’s Club of Safford, 215 W. Main Street, Safford.
