SAFFORD – Lightning hit close to home yesterday during an afternoon monsoon storm. Residents of a secluded neighborhood north of Relation Street heard a loud crack of thunder shortly before 6:00 PM, but were unaware that lightning had struck a tree. A passerby noticed flames in the palm trees and called 911. Authorities said that there were two lightning strikes close together that ignited the trees.
