Library to host Superhero Us for special needs residents and families

SAFFORD — The Safford City-Graham County Library wants to know what very special families would like.

On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon, families with a special needs member will be able to tour the library and talk with the staff about what the library can do to make it more accommodating to those with special needs.

“Our vision is for it to be a great community forum, basically, and they can share their ideas and their thoughts and what works for their child,” said Library Director Victoria Silva.

While the program will be family driven, and thus will evolve based on participants needs and wants, one of the first things the library will do is facilitate work on identifying emotions, as well as how to cope and manage with emotions in appropriate ways.

The program is called Superhero Us and is funded via the American Rescue Plan Act through the Arizona State Library to develop programming for underserved community members.
