SAFFORD — A family of four can get into the Safford Air Show for free . . . if one of the children has the right artistic stuff.
The Safford City-Graham County Library is running a kids coloring contest and the grand prize is free admission for four to the Safford Air Show, Saturday, Nov. 9, at Safford Regional Airport-1Lt Duane Spalsbury Field.
The free contest is open to children ages 6 to 12. The coloring sheets are available for pick-up at the library and must be returned completed to the library by Monday, Nov. 4. The winner will be drawn Nov. 5.
The Safford Air Show will feature high-flying aerobatics, precision maneuvers by expert pilots, and ground displays of vintage and modern aircraft.
Flying in the will be Anthony Oshingua in the Pitts Special, Alfred Maldonando in the Fouga Magister, Torrey Ward in the Subsonex Microjet, Erik Swanson T-6 Aerobatics, Dan Kirkland T-28 Aerobatics, Jeff Boerboon Decathlon Aerobatics, the Desert Rats CJ-6 Formation Team, and Mike Rutledge in the FM2 Wildcat.
Also part of the show will be a parachute demonstration and helicopter rides by the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation in their UH-1 Huey and AH-1 Cobra.
There will also be static (non-flying) displays from the CAF C-47, PB4Y Privateer, USAF U-28 Drago, privately owned PT-26 and Gyroplane, and a SOCOM C-27J.
Admission to the Safford Air Show is $15 per person, $7 for children 2-17 and seniors 65 and older, and free for children 1 and younger and veterans. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
