Liam and Olivia continued to top of the list of most-popular Arizona baby names in 2023

For the fourth year in a row, Arizona parents have chosen to name their new babies Olivia and Liam more than any other name in 2023. Liam has now topped the list for a decade.

The top 10 names for babies have remained fairly consistent for the past few years, with certain names gaining slightly more popularity, but still remaining among the most-popular like Isabella, Emma, Sophia/Sofia, Noah, Oliver, and Mateo.

In the past year, the top 10 names chosen for baby girls included: Olivia (361 times), Isabella (274), Emma (271), Mia (271), Camila (265), Sophia (261), Amelia (244), Charlotte (236), Evelyn (197), and Luna (194).

Among boys, following Liam (428) are Mateo (423), Noah (365), Oliver (289), Santiago (270), Elijah (254), Sebastian (251), Ezra (233), Levi (228), and Benjamin (224).

The most-popular baby names in Arizona are also popular nationally. Olivia, Emma, Liam, and Noah have consistently been the most-chosen names for newborns both in the state and across the country.

Popular names haven’t changed much in the past decade. The most popular names for Arizona girls ten years ago were Sophia, Isabella, Emma, Mia, and Olivia. For boys, the 2013 list included Liam, Noah, Jacob, Alexander, and Daniel.

For contrast, many of the names popular 30 years ago are much less popular today. For girls, the top three names in 1993 were Jessica, Ashley, and Samantha. Only Samantha appeared in the top 100 names of 2023 and landed at number 96 on the list.

For boys, Michael, Christopher, and Daniel were the most popular and while they are not as popular as they were in 1993, two of those (Christopher and Daniel) still appear in the top 100 baby names used today.
