THATCHER — 2023 was the year Reed Richins was recognized for the service he provides the community.

In September, Richins was presented a plaque of appreciation from the Graham County Substance Abuse Coalition for his continued support of the organization, and in December he was recognized by the Graham County Chamber of Commerce for six years of service, including multiple stints as president of the governing board.

Then, right before the start of the new year, he received a Certificate of Congressional Recognition from U.S. Rep Juan Ciscomani, R-Ariz., for his more than 18 years of sponsoring the Elementary School Food Drive each November, which brings in tens of thousands of non-perishable food items to local food banks’ shelves each year.

“We just wanted to help, and when you see the giant pile (of food) that we leave, we fed a lot of families,” Richins said. “And literally it’s become something, because we’ve done it for so many years, that (for) the food bank it absolutely is a necessity.”

Richins is the owner of the Double R Communications radio stations Kat Kountry 94.5, Sunny 102.3, News-Talk 1230 AM KATO, as well as Valley Vision.

He also owns Double R Sound which provides the sound system for numerous community events, including Big Buck, Arizona Fan Fest, SalsaFest, the Veteran’s Day Ceremony and Merry Main Street, as well as the parades for July Fourth and the Graham County Fair, and the Gila Valley Holiday Light Parade.
