Lecture on NASA’s DART Mission at Eastern Arizona Discovery Park

THATCHER, Ariz. —  Join us for an exciting evening at Eastern Arizona College’s Discovery Park on Saturday, August 24, 2024, as Dr. Will Oldroyd presents an in-depth lecture on NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission. The free event will take place at 6 p.m. in the Jupiter Room at Discovery Park. 

Dr. Oldroyd will provide updated information on DART, NASA’s groundbreaking space mission designed to test a method of planetary defense against near-Earth objects. The DART mission aims to assess the effectiveness of impacting an asteroid head-on to transfer momentum and deflect its trajectory. 

This family-friendly presentation is open to the public and will be followed by exciting activities including Polaris Shuttle Rides and night sky observations through the 20” Tinsley Telescope.

Eastern Arizona College’s Discovery Park, located in Safford, Arizona, is a dynamic educational and research center. It hosts visits to the Mt. Graham International Observatory and offers tours of the Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope, the Submillimeter (Radio) Telescope of the Arizona Radio Observatory, and the Large Binocular Telescope, the world’s most powerful telescope. The park also provides science field trips for K-12 students from local and surrounding areas, featuring hands-on activities in astronomy, ecology, and native habitats at no cost to schools.
