June Elaine Kennedy Lackey, 90, entered into rest on November 23, 2016. She was born April 26, 1926 to Frances Sanders Kennedy and Jack Vernon Kennedy in Duncan, Arizona.
Early in age, June acquired polio and her parents worked with her in water to build her strength so that she was able to walk without braced. She graduated from Duncan High School. In her early adult life, she worked as a housewife/mother on the Hot Well Draw ranch, since her family was employed in the ranch life. The family later purchased a ranch in the mountains near Miami, Arizona.
She married William Lackey and the children consisted of Louis, Vernon, Charlene, Frances and Billie. June home taught her young family at the remote ranch. Eventually, the family sold the ranch and the family moved to Florence, Arizona. June began a career as a Medical Record Librarian. During this time three other boys lived with the family as adopted sons, Anthony Antone, Benjamin Montgomery and Robert Sepulveda. Later, the family moved into the Globe/Miami area. June worked as a medical librarian in the area hospitals.
The family moved to the Duncan area, and June worked at the Morenci Hospital as a medical record librarian. She retired and Bill and June moved to Alpine, Arizona. They lived in Alpine until Bill passed away. After Bill’s death, June moved back to the Duncan/Safford area until her death.
June will be missed by family members and others. Survivors are; Louis Kennedy of Ft. Davis, TX, Charlene (Fen) Richards of Miami, AZ, Frances (Don) Smith of Duncan, Billie (Scott) Wilkerson of Mule Creek, stepson, Benny (Donette) Montgomery of Coolidge, 14 Grandchildren, 10 Great-Grandchildren and 8 Great-Great Grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parent, Frances and Jack Kennedy, husband, William “Bill” Lackey, and daughter-in-law, Mary Kennedy.
