Josephine Ruiz

Josephine Ruiz, a long-time resident of Clifton, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her side, in Scottsdale at the home of her daughter Lucille on July 23, 2016. She was born to Sophia and Jose Castaneda on November 19, 1927 in Metcalf, Arizona.

Josephine graduated from Clifton High School in 1946. Shortly after, she married Manuel Ruiz on October 26, 1946 and started a family that spanned for fifty-seven years.

Chavela, as she was called by family and friends, was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She enjoyed fishing, watching sports, attending local sporting events in Clifton, mornings walks with her friends and spending time with her family.

Josephine was so loved and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her daughters; Sylvia Jaquez, Lucille Dahl and JoAnne Washburn. Sisters; Linda Thibodeau, Natalia Magallanes, Millie Castaneda, Sophia Zazueta and Carol Castaneda. Brothers; Armando and Raymond Castaneda; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

Josephine is proceeded in death by her husband Manuel (Nelo), parents; Sophia and Jose Castaneda, sister; Eva Merino and brothers; Joe (Titi) and Arturo (Casta) Castaneda.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2016 in Clifton at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Rosary will be led at 9:00 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10: a.m. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Morenci.
