Human-caused Fire Burning in Heber Area

Heber, Ariz – A series of brush fires has grown to consume more than 5,180 acres. The fire is 20% contained. The fire was believed to have been caused by sparks from a trailer being dragged by a semi-truck. State Troppers located the truck and stopped the driver. The truck has been placed out of service. It’s unclear if the driver will be cited or charged with anything.

The fire is 5 miles northeast of Heber, which is between Payson and Show Low. The Arizona Department of Transportation has closed parts of State Routes 377 and 277. An order of evacuation for residents of the Despain Ranch areas has been lifted and power has been restored to the area.

The fire was started Monday at approximately 1:30 PM.
