Home tattooing draws the attention of Safford PD

SAFFORD — A Safford man recently contacted law enforcement over his adult son receiving a tattoo.

The man told Safford Police he hadn’t given his son permission, and the son appeared to have the work done in a private dwelling rather than at a shop by a professional artist.

Officers explained that, since his son was 21 and the man could not prove guardianship due to his son having diminished capacity, his son did not require parental permission.

Officers said they would investigate the private dwelling where the tattooing may have taken place.

Arizona Revised Statute 13-3721 prohibits tattooing out of a home or impermanent structure. The statute also requires that needles be “sterilized with equipment used by state licensed medical facilities.”
