WILLCOX — Eric Hjalmarson has accepted the head football coaching job at Willcox. Hjalmarson spent the last two seasons at Safford where the Bulldogs won 15 games and won the 3A South Championship for the first time in 19 years this season.

“Willcox is a blue collar community and has a history of tough nosed football teams,” said Hjalmarson in a phone interview with GilaValleyCentral. “I’m ready to get to work,” he added.

The Cowboys went 5-5 last season under Alonzo Highsmith, who stepped down in January.

Willcox will play in the 2A San Pedro, which is really just the old 2A East minus Thatcher, with a new name. It includes Benson, Bisbee, Morenci, Pima and Tombstone.
