SAFFORD — The Gila Valley Hiking Club is heading back up Mount Graham this weekend.

This week’s hike is along the trail to Webb Peak, the home of a 45-foot fire lookout tower that was used for about 30 years in the mid-20th Century. Only the frame of the tower remains following the Frye fire in 2017.

The one-mile hike to the tower location will start from the Columbine corrals, Plan on having to climb over downed trees along the early part of the trail.

Once at Webb Peak, hikers can either return the same way, or take the Forest Service road back down, adding two miles to the total hiked during the day.

Hikers are asked to meet at the west entrance to Graham County Fairgrounds, across from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, no later than 8 a.m. Hikers should wear sturdy shoes, a hat, and bring sunscreen, snacks and lunch, a walking stick ,and at least 1.5 liters of water.
