Health Department’s Contreras honored for work on women’s health

SAFFORD — A member of the Graham County Health Department has been selected for an award for her leadership when it comes to helping women in rural areas.

Rosa Contreras, Health Program coordinator for the Health Department, was named the Emerging Leader in Rural Women’s Health by the Arizona Alliance for Community Health Centers and the Arizona Women’s Health Network.

In an email, Contreras said, “I was not expecting this. Thank you so much for this opportunity and the nomination. This truly, means a lot me.”

She will receive her award at the Rural Women’s Health Symposium, Aug. 17-18, at the Prescott Resort and Conference Center.

Also receiving awards are:

● Outstanding Achievement in Rural Women’s Health — Amanda Guay, Community Health director at North Country Healthcare in Flagstaff

● Innovative Approach to Rural Women’s Health — Natividad Cano, substance abuse counselor at The Haven in Tucson

● Rural Women’s Health Practitioner of the Year — Dr. Josephine Kim, obstetrics and gynecology specialist in Prescott
